Corset Piercings.
The "corset" was an undergarment very popular in the 1800's that was worn under garments by women to portray an hour glass figure. It is now one of the newest forms of body modification. Most people who get corset piercings use standard bead rings which a length of ribbon is weaved through.
I personally love the look of most corset piercings.
Corset piercing starts with the creation of two rows of piercings on either side of the spine. Once these heal, they can be laced with ribbons and pulled tight. The person wearing this piercing must be very strict about keeping the area clean, which is difficult when the piercings are on your back. Risks of this kind of body modification include infection, rejection of the jewelry, and unsightly scarring. So doctors are concerned with this procedure and says it is very risky.
Also, what most people don't realize is that they should not be done permanantly. This type of piercing is reccomended to only be temporary. Wether for fun, a photo shoot, or a circus act! If not removed there is a very high risk that the rings used in the skin will indeed be rejected, which then the wounds will become irritated and can leave ugly, unwanted, scars.
I looked around at places in the area that offer this, which aren't many, and it seems the average cost for a 6 bar, 12 ring, corset piercing is around $250.00
Another risky procedure that I came across while researching corset piercings was tattooing your eye balls. Specifically, the whites of your eye balls (sclera) in wild colors. It is most common in jail inmates but has been said to have been done outside the jail walls as well. Ophthalmologists say eyeball tattoos are dangerous and could lead to infection, perforation, hemorrhages or even blindness and should not be done.
This to me, is just outrageous and distgusting. This seems extremely permanant and irriversible. I coulnd't find alot of pictures or more information but I did find this MSNBC clip from a Lockup episode which aired in 2010 starring a few inmates that had done it.
What are your takes on Corset Piercings? Beauty or just pure pain? Would you do it? Or do you know someone who has done it? I would probably do it if it didn't hurt as much and didn't have such permanant damage or risk of infection. I wont even ask about the eye ball tattoos, that is just plain ridiculous!
I personally think the corset piercings are beautiful. I'm 18, and have been thinking getting them done on my sides. The fact that they're not permenant almost makes me want to get them tattoed instead. But I agree, the tattoes lessen the effect.
