Tastey Thursdays!

5-Ingredient Sandwiches! Nice and easy....

I normally work 8-10 hours a day and my lunch breaks arent that long. Alot of times I pack sandwiches for lunch, or even have them for dinner because I am too tired to stand around and cook dinner. Normally I go for flax seed bread (the roll up kind) or pita pockets, because they are low in calories. I do like wheat bread every now & again, and once in a blue moon I will splurge on some texas toast. I am a carbohydrate whore and love me some bread... so honestly, besides chicken and potatoes, sandwiches are my other favorite meals.

I don't know about you but I run out of ideas. My husband stands in line at the deli and gets our sandwich meats because its too much of a circus for me! He'll come back with either shaved ham or chicken/turkey breast for me and hoffman sharp cheddar cheese. Usually I'll eat that with a handful of lettuce or salad mix, and since getting older my love for mustard has kind of died, and Ill normally just eat my sandy dry. I don't often try new ideas for sandwiches but today on facebook I saw an awesome post from {Cookinglight.com} with easy 5-Ingredient Sandwiches!

So here are the ones I would love to try....

Grilled Ham, Muenster, and Spinach Sandwich.
Mild Muenster cheese is too often overlooked; it’s great for sandwiches, burgers, omelets, or just plain snacking. It matches well with thinly sliced ham, fresh spinach, and sweet-and-tangy chowchow in these crusty-breaded sandwiches.

What you need :
- Chicago-style Italian bread
- Deli ham
- Muenster cheese
- Baby spinach
- Mild chowchow

Pear-Walnut Sandwiches
Sweet, nutty, and creamy are the dominant flavors here, with toasted cinnamon-raisin bread, fresh alfalfa, and crisp pears offering lots of crunch. A nice lunch on its own, this sandwich also matches well with slightly sweet soups.

What you need :
- Tub style light cream cheese
- Cinnamon raisen bread
- Walnuts
- Bartlett pears
- Alfalfa sprouts

{I love sprouts and toast so this one looks delish!}

Grilled Ham and Mango Quesadillas
Chutney adds spice to mango’s tropical sweetness, while queso fresco is soft and creamy. Smoky grilled flavor and salty ham cut through both to create a filling, meaty lunch.

What you need :
- Mango chutney
- Multigrain tortillas
- Deli ham
- Queso fresco
- Green onions

Prosciutto, Fontina, and Fig Panini
Sweet and salty are a great pair in sandwiches, and this recipe has intensely flavored salty prosciutto paired with candylike fig preserves. Three minutes of grilling and pressing makes the fontina nice and gooey and the whole sandwich crispy and warm.

What you need :
- Chicago style italian bread
- Prosciutto
- Fontina cheese
- Baby arugula
- Fig preserves

Also on their site I came across a list of the "Best Fast Food Burgers and Sandwiches."  Now, I don't know about you but if you are trying to lose weight like I am, doing it outside of your house and away from all your healthy foods is not easy. More times than most I'd haver to admit that even when I plan on getting something health, like some fruit or a salad, at the last minute I become weak and almost out of control and order the steak tip dinner with a baked potatoe. And although I try to trick myself into thinking that it is "ok" because I am "out for dinner" and I should "enjoy" it. Deep inside I know that I have failed and I feel shitty about it when I lay my head down at night. That is why I like this post from {Cooking Light.} It makes me feel like maybe I will actually be able to make better, healthier, delicious choices when I am out at a nice resteraunt, in a quick need of a hunger fix on the go, and some of our all time favorite stops!

Starbucks Roasted Chicken Breast with Cranberries and Tarragon Dressing on Whole Wheat Bread
Finally, a chicken salad sandwich without all the fat. How does Starbucks do it? Their secret is swapping fresh tarragon dressing for mayo. That trade doesn’t just cut the fat and saturated fat (each sandwich has less than 1.5 grams), it pumps up the flavor as well as tart dried cranberries and crunchy lettuce and celery. A bonus 6 grams of fiber and 32 grams of protein guarantees you’ll stay satisfied for hours.

Comes in at 420 calories.

Au Bon Pain Black Bean Burger
Au Bon Pain nails the veggie burger with its hearty black bean patty nestled inside of a feta flatbread and topped with tomatoes, romaine, feta spread, and a dollop of guacamole. In addition to a surprising 29 grams of protein, you’ll rack up an impressive 14 grams of fiber. If the 18 grams of fat scare you, you can relax. They’re almost entirely heart-healthy fats with only 4 grams of saturated fat and close to zero cholesterol.
Comes in at 560 calories.
And Ive always wanted to try a black bean burger!

Burger King Whopper Jr.
Burger King really does let you have it your way. Visit their website and you can customize your burger and get updated nutrition stats to match. Before tweaking, one right-sized flame broiled Whopper Jr. with all the fixings sports a respectable 340 calories, 19 fat grams and 530 milligrams of sodium. But you can make it even better. Lose the pickles and the mayo and you’ll trim 80 calories, 9 fat grams, and 120 milligrams of sodium.

Comes in at 340 calories.
And I am shocked this is on the list, and has less calories than the black bean burger!

  1. Some of those sandwiches have combinations that I would have never thought to put in a sandwich - especially the one with pears.

I've been trying to stay away from eating bread lately and have replaced it with low carb tortillas.

My favorite wrap is 2 teaspoons of mustard, half a cup of tuna fish, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, 1/4 skim mozzarella cheese, and then a sprinkling of fat-free Italian dressing (less than a tablespoon). It's simple, but I think it tastes pretty good.

If I'm having this at home I'll melt the cheese on the tortilla in the grill before adding the other ingredients, but it works well for a wrap on the go as well :)

  4. I am on a diet right now but a friend of mine loves hamburger.
I think I should prepare one for him.

I'll prepare it on a healthy way because he has the symptoms of diabetes and bread is bad for him.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the recipe and the healthy choices.

  5. My partner will surely love this Miss Felicity. Every time we go to malls she always prefer eating a burger than any other foods.

This best fits her since she is body conscious now. Thanks to you!
